Key Lime Colada
Our Key Lime Colada is a fun spin on the classic piña colada! We decided to make this blended drink without pineapple juice, giving it a unique, coconut lime flavor. Made with white rum, real key lime juice, cream of coconut, and key lime rum cream our key lime colada will have you thinking it’s summer all year long.
I’ve loved the flavor of key lime since I was a teenager. Give me everything from key lime pie to fudge and key lime cookies to cheesecake dip.
I even love using key lime juice in drinks and cocktails! It’s tart, zingy, and adds wonderful contrast to other sweet ingredients.
Our key lime colada is the perfect balance between tangy key lime and sweet cream of coconut, making it a great blender drink to enjoy poolside or at a friendly girl’s brunch.
All you need is a blender, a few ingredients, and some serving glasses. It takes less than 5 minutes to prep this beach drink, pour it into your favorite cocktail glass, and top it with whipped cream, toasted coconut flakes, and cherry!
Tips for Making the Perfect Key Lime Colada
Tips
- Use Fresh or Bottled Key Lime Juice: Either fresh or bottled key lime juice works for this cocktail. Fresh key limes are very small and you won’t get a lot of juice from one lime, so using bottled juice is a great option.
- Quality of Rum Matters: Choose a good quality white rum for your cocktail. The smoother the rum, the better the overall taste of your colada.
- Try Coconut Rum: Instead of white rum, try coconut rum. While coconut rum is generally sweeter and has a lower alcohol by volume (abv), it adds a great flavor.
- Use Your Favorite Garnish: Add your favorite topping! We love using whipped cream and lime zest, but other options are coconut flakes, graham cracker crumbs or a maraschino cherry.
- Adjust to Taste: Start with the recommended amounts of each ingredient, but adjust according to taste. If it’s too tart, add a bit more cream of coconut. Too sweet? A little more key lime juice will do the trick.
- Serve Immediately: Our key lime colada is best enjoyed fresh out of the blender. It melts quickly and can easily separate, so storage isn’t recommended.
