Made with white rum, RumChata, and key lime rum cream, these key lime pie shots take less than 5 minutes to make and are a creamy version of key lime pie! Add some whipped cream, a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs and a lime wedge and you’ll have a sweet, dessert cocktail in no time.

Shot glass filled with a creamy drink.

This summer, I’m all about the flavor of key limes. I mean, we do live in South Florida so it’s only fitting.

A few weeks ago, I bought a bottle of key lime rum cream to make key lime coladas and there was some leftover. Why not use it to make key lime pie shots? It’s been a while since we’ve had them and I’ve never shared my recipe with y’all. It’s a win-win!

What are key lime pie shots? Think of them like key lime pie or a cheesecake in a shot glass, kind of like a dessert cocktail. They’re smaller than a martini and have graham cracker crumbs and whipped cream just like the pie!

What’s in a key lime pie shot?

My recipe uses just 3 ingredients. Surprise, none of them are key lime juice!

Key Lime Rum Cream: This is a creamy, key lime flavored liqueur that’s sweet and can easily be enjoyed on the rocks.

RumChata: Much like key lime rum cream, RumChata is a creamy, rum based liqueur that’s sweet and enjoyable alone or mixed.

White Rum: Of course, I’m using one more rum to complete the trio! White or silver rum works best. You can even use coconut rum, but it’s going to add even more sweetness to an already sweet drink. If you don’t want to use rum, try vodka, whipped cream vodka, or lime vodka instead.

Optional Garnishes:

These are completely optional, but they make these shots so stinkin’ cute!

Graham Cracker Crumbs: I keep a box of graham cracker crumbs in the pantry for my baking recipes, so I grabbed a few of those. If you don’t have crumbs, make some with a sheet of graham crackers.

Whipped Cream: Red-whip or canned whipped topping works great!

Lime Zest or a Lime Wedge: Zest a lime or cut a lime wedge to add some “green” to your key lime cocktails.

Tip for the Best Drinks:

Chill the Ingredients: Make sure to place your ingredients into the fridge before you use them. These key lime shots taste so much better chilled, and refrigerate your shot glasses, too!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Question)

We highly recommend that you don’t. I tested this recipe multiple ways using bottled key lime juice, and it curdled. Every. Single. Time. I don’t mean just a little. It was so bad that it looked like really old milk. Each time the drink was so thick that I couldn’t pour it out of the shot glass.

If you’d like to add more lime flavor, try adding key lime syrup. You can find it on Amazon, at some larger liquor stores, and some speciality stores. This will make the key lime shots sweeter, so you might consider reducing the rum cream or RumChata.
