Place the blackberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat until the blackberries break down into a pulp (if necessary, use a potato masher to mash the fruit) and the sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat, and stir in the lemon juice. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove any thick parts.
